Fraport USA’s Solution Zero Program is Turning Used Cooking Oil into Sustainable Jet Fuel

KEY FEATURES

Cost Management – ZERO cost; Forecasted to make used cooking oil collection and maintenance a zero-cost expense to the concessions program,
saving common area maintenance thousands of dollars annually.

Clean Transport Process – A completely self-contained used cooking oil system, from the interior of the restaurant fryer unit into a travel caddy, transported to a remote storage tank. The use of state-of-the-art equipment enables a completely safe transport process that delivers used cooking oil to a holding tank for safe, efficient, and clean removal off airport property.

Operation Efficiencies – Less labor handling used cooking oil by staff.

Safety – Eliminates used cooking oil spills on and around airport property. Removes the risk of fire and other accidents on and around the airfield. Added safety of reduced exposure to staff of hot cooking oils in the unit, during transport, and depositing into the containment units.

Meets and exceeds EPA & Federal Standards.

Sustainability Standards

Fraport USA is building on our platform of leadership in sustainability and will deliver meaningful and impactful enhancements. We work with our tenants through education and encourage participation in available recycling programs at each airport, as well as support them in their own sustainability efforts.

We have subtenant sublease guidelines requiring several sustainability standards, that also apply to vendors and suppliers.

Subtenants will be required to participate in a variety of Sustainability Programs that may include:

  • Trash Removal – All trash is removed by the contracted janitorial company at scheduled times of the day. Trash should not be removed by the merchant.
  • Grease Recycling – All restaurants are required to participate in the grease recycling program, which includes the use of a fully enclosed system that discharges grease from the restaurant into a rolling caddy, which is then transported to upload grease to a dedicated grease disposal drum for recycling.
  • Food Composting – All concession program units with a food and/or beverage component, are required to participate in a food compost program. Daily/weekly schedules will be created to ensure food compost is retrieved and recycled.
  • Use of Janitorial Supplies – Common Area (i.e., Food courts, storage areas, back hallways) Our janitorial maintenance vendor will be required to use janitorial cleaning products that are EPA registered and certified. Concession program subtenants are required to submit an EPA certified janitorial supply list, ensuring chemicals used throughout the concession program are environmentally friendly.
  • Fixtures/Equipment Recycling – All concessions are encouraged to donate any reusable fixtures or equipment that is no longer needed.

Together with our concession partners, we are committed to driving sustainable change in the airport environment. Our sustainability commitment recognizes the importance of collaboration and collective action to drive visible and sustainable change.
