Fit2Fly Returns to AIRMALL at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport to Focus on Health and Wellness for Travelers

Week of Yoga, Healthy Snacks and Activities Begin May 31 at BWI

BALTIMORE, May 26, 2016 – Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI Marshall) is helping travelers focus on ways to stay fit and healthy on the go with Fit2Fly from Tuesday, May 31 to Friday, June 3, 2016. Launched by AIRMALL Maryland, Fit2Fly week includes a series of health and wellness activities – including free yoga sessions, a Friday fun walk, giveaways and fitness tips – to encourage passengers while traveling.

“Fit2Fly is our way of showing travelers how fun and easy it is to incorporate health and wellness into traveling,” said Brett Kelly, vice president, AIRMALL Maryland. “Whether it’s grabbing a healthy snack or walking a few extra steps on the way to your flight, there are many simple yet satisfying things a traveler can do to stay active while flying.”

Activities scheduled during Fit2Fly at the AIRMALL at BWI include:

  • Tuesday, May 31: Healthy cooking demonstrations at Maggio Olive Oil, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Wednesday, June 1: Wellness tips and giveaways from M&T Bank, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Thursday, June 2: Designated Fit2Fly Day
    • Fit2Fly team will hand out nutritional Jimmy Bars and fitness gear
    • Free yoga sessions with YogaWorks Studio from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Gate Room C8
    • WLIF crew from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. near the AB food court
  • Friday, June 3: Friday Fun Walk—Pre-security 1K Cardio Trail, 10 a.m.

AIRMALL Fit2Fly teams will hand out cards that offer travelers tips for staying healthy on the go, ranging from poses for mid-flight yoga to a travelers’ dining guide that highlights AIRMALL’s healthy offerings. Giveaways include jump ropes, yoga mats, water bottles and other fit-friendly items.

“This initiative will highlight the many opportunities for health and fitness here at BWI Marshall Airport,” said Ricky Smith, Chief Executive Officer, BWI Marshall. “As we near the peak summer travel season, we encourage our passengers to experience our healthy and nutritious options.”

Travelers at BWI Marshall can also stay active while waiting for their flights on two 1K round-trip circuits, located pre- and post-security. For those with more time, a scenic 12.5 mile outdoor trail for hiking or biking encircles the airport property. Self-serve bikes are also available near the Light Rail stop at the airport.
