AIRMALL at BWI Marshall Among the Top-Ranked Concessions Programs for Healthy Airport Dining Options

Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine Puts BWI Program at Fourth Overall

BALTIMORE, November 13, 2013 – AIRMALL® USA, the leading airport concessions developer in North America and operator of the AIRMALL at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI Marshall), has distinguished itself among its peer airports when it comes to healthy dining options. The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) recently issued its 2013 Airport Food Review, and BWI Marshall is ranked fourth out of all airports included in the survey.

“Quick and convenient doesn’t have to be unhealthy. At BWI, we’ve made it a priority to meet the growing demand for healthy options for our passengers,” said Brett Kelly, vice president of AIRMALL Maryland. “This year alone, we added several new concepts that offer healthy and delicious menu choices, including Chipotle and Tasti D-Lite. These concepts joined a variety of other restaurants that focus on fresh and healthy ingredients, and we’re pleased that the airport has been recognized for its efforts.”

The 2013 Airport Food Review conducted by PCRM found that 80 percent of the restaurants at the AIRMALL at BWI Marshall offer healthy menu items that include vegetables, fruits, whole grains and legumes.

PCRM’s report specifically recognized the following eateries at the AIRMALL at BWI Marshall for their healthy menu options:

  • Nature’s Kitchen Fresh Café (located in the Concourse A/B Food Court) was recognized for its variety of fresh-cut greens and its seaweed salad.
  • Silver Diner (located on Concourse A/B) serves up fresh, local ingredients, and a variety of low-calorie, vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free menu options. PCRM recognized the restaurant for its vegetarian stir-fry and veggie chili selections.
  • Rams Head Tavern (located on Concourse C) offers a variety of freshlyprepared salads.
  • Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company (located on Concourse D) is a regional coffee roaster dedicated to sustainability.

“We know that travelers appreciate the variety of healthy and satisfying menu items that the AIRMALL at BWI Marshall provides,” said Paul J. Wiedefeld, executive director of BWI Marshall Airport. “We’re pleased to receive this recognition from PCRM as we continue to add healthy choices to our concessions program.”
