New Primanti Bros. Restaurant and Bar now serving travelers at Pittsburgh International Airport

Dining legend brings iconic menu and its Almost Famous experience to airport diners

PITTSBURGH – Travelers looking for a taste of Pittsburgh can now experience the legendary Primanti Bros. at Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT). Primanti Bros. Restaurant and Bar opens today at the airport, bringing its iconic menu to airport travelers for the first time. The restaurant is known for piling fresh-cut fries and coleslaw on sandwiches – a practice it started in the ‘30s for hungry truckers on the go.

“Nothing says welcome to Pittsburgh quite like Primanti Bros.,” said Eric Sprys, Chief Commercial Officer, Allegheny County Airport Authority. “Sense of place is important and we will continue to focus on bringing more of Pittsburgh’s restaurants into the terminal. When you land, it should feel like a part of Pittsburgh.”

Primanti Bros.’ new 2,700-square-foot outpost in the Center Core is an offshoot of its original location in the Strip District, down to décor that celebrates its hometown roots. A colorful hand-painted mural by local artist Dave Klug features Steel City legends, ranging from industry titans and sports greats to Mister Rogers.

Open morning to night, Primanti Bros. also brings new offerings for travelers – including, for the first time, breakfast. The brand new breakfast menu features a variety of over-the-top breakfast sandwiches – served Primanti-style with fries and slaw, of course, plus Breakfast Plates and a la carte items. Classic Almost Famous Sandwiches, Tall Boys and Signature Handhelds along with appetizers, fries, soups and salads round out the main menu.

“We take the passion for Pittsburgh very seriously – and we’re excited to share the Primanti Bros. experience with all the travelers coming through Pittsburgh International,” said David Head. “The experience, the food, the tall beers – everything you get here will be just like the experience we offer at all Primanti Bros. locations.”

The restaurant is set up to accommodate more than 100 customers at a time and is engineered to ensure travelers are able to enter and leave quickly if they need – or to hang and have a beer if they’re killing time prior to a flight. The full bar will offer a wide selection of beer, cocktails and wine.

“Starting today, travelers can enjoy Primanti Bros. right here at the airport,” says Ben Zandi, president and CEO of Fraport USA. “We’re honored to bring more of our region’s food and culture into the terminal with this dining legend. It doesn’t get any more Pittsburgh than Primanti Bros.”

About Primanti Brothers

In 1933, Joe Primanti opened a lunch cart in Pittsburgh’s Strip District selling sandwiches to the hungry truckers who were coming and going at all times of the night. Encouraged by sales and positive feedback, Joe expanded to a small storefront where he was joined by his brothers Dick and Stanley and their nephew John DePriter. And that’s how the very first Primanti Bros. location was born – Primanti Bros. currently has 45 locations, all dedicated to that early notion that folks deserve great food, with no pretense, for a good price.
